Planned (Dreamed) Projects
front of house
Trim the bushes in front of the house. Cut the lowest branches off the holly tree. Plant tulips and arrange other flowers/plants in planters.
foyer
Take down the paneling and open up the wall between the entryway and the sitting room. Paint the foyer in a nice bright color and pull up the carpet, either restoring the hardwood floors or laying down new flooring. Hang a thick, antique-look chandelier. Pull the carpeting off the stairs and either return to wood or lay down lighter carpet. Later, put in a wooden banister.
back entry-way & interior hall
Take down paneling in the entry-way and either paint or wallpaper in sunnier colors. Pull the carpet out of the interior hall and put down synthetic flooring. Paint the paneling in a warmer color. Put in another light.
windows
Replace all the windows that have broken thermapane seals.
outside of house
Repaint the trim around the windows in white or cream. Hang shutters on the five front windows.
upstairs kitchen
Pull up the carpeting and lay ceramic tile on the floor. Install all new cabinetry. Move the downstairs refrigerator upstairs or get a new fridge. Get a new stove. Pull off the layers of paneling around the chimney and see if it can be restored. Move the desk, possibly downstairs. Install garbage disposal.
upstairs living room (change to dining room)
Pull up carpeting. Do something about the walls, but leave the ceiling beams. Close off the closet. Move in the dining room furniture.
downstairs kitchen (change to mud room)
Remove cabinet doors to expose shelving.
dining room (change to family room)
Move out dining room furniture. Put up corkboard/memo board and "family corner." Maybe open wall between family room and sitting room. Maybe move computer armoire and desk in.
faith's room
Paint over the paneling in a pale pink, possibly doing the ceiling and built-in bookshelves in a truer pink, with moldings in white. Set up the bed. Install drawer pulls on the dresser. Paint the small standing and hanging cabinets from our old bathroom pink and put next to the bed. Put molding around the existing mirror.
thea's room
Wash, prime, and paint over the paneling in irregular blue and purple stripes. Paint the desk, hutch and dresser some neutral color. Hang the flower curtains from her old room. Hang the large butterfly curtain on the wall, possibly behind the bed.
deck
Install a deck!
fence
Continue the fence from the northwest corner of the yard across to meet the house. Install large double swinging gates across the driveway.
gardens
Plant the vegetable garden along the west fence -- peas, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, and canteloupe.
Plant Thea's butterfly garden by the south fence in a C shape, bordered by stones and with a stone sitting area in the center. Affix some sort of decorative butterfly to the tall garden stake.
Plant Faith's sunflowers along the east fence between the driveway and sidewalk and then wherever else we feel like planting them.
downstairs bathroom
Replace the old flooring and install a vanity and better lighting. In the future... put in a larger bathtub.
upstairs bathroom
Fix shower so it doesn't leak into closet downstairs. Replace flooring and install better lighting.
library
Install molding as a chair rail and paint the walls in rich earthy colors. Line the south wall with 2-3 shelf bookcases and install shelves further up the wall, or make built-in bookshelves. Put in another comfortable chair.
sitting room
install a picture window on the north wall facing the city. Improve the lighting and paint in light but warm colors.
basement
Paint sealant over at least bottoms of walls, put down cement in spots, redo cement floor in laundry room. Clean out old junk and clean up what we'll keep. Make decent useable space for storage and pantry.
individual furniture projects
End table: Redo top with ceramic tile.
Dining room table: Refinish.
Faith's dresser: Drawer pulls.
Faith's cabinet & hanging cabinet: Paint pink.
Thea's dresser and desk: ??
Glassed cabinet: Strip, refinish, new legs.
