I think it's safe to say my writing attempt for this year was a bust. There are eight days until the end of the month, and I can't see myself finishing my story by then, especially considering that I haven't worked a bit on it since I got back from writing weekend. In fact I feel like a cheat for even going on writing weekend at all.

I opened up the story this morning and read the 10,000 words that I have written. To be honest, I really like them. I like the tone, I like the characters. It should have been a good story. I wish I could have written it.

Didn't get a whole lot accomplished after passing 10,000 last night -- my total stands now at 10,222. I figure there's another 10K words or so until the end of the story, and my main goal for the rest of the month is simply to finish it.

So -- About the trip: Writing weekend was great. The fall colors at Deep Creek Lake were at their peak.

Although the weather was beautiful, we mostly holed up in the cabin writing. No one accidentally erased any parts of any novels this year. We did find out, when we arrived and switched on our laptops, that the cabin had wireless internet. This was not very good -- it was way too easy and tempting to check email, play online games, chat with friends, etc, instead of writing. As usual we set word count goals and rewards for meeting them, consisting mainly of fruity frozen drinks and hot tubbing.

The cabin at Deep Creek was a great last-minute find, since our original cabin in Luray developed "electrical problems" five days before we were supposed to arrive.

Tracie, Rochelle and Heather were great companions. Too bad we can't do writing weekend every month.

I hit 10,000 words just a few minutes ago. I'm pretty pleased, since I told myself I could not go in the hot tub until I'd gotten to 10,000, and also since I wanted to go outside at 11 pm to look at the stars. Now I can do both, with no guilt. Then I think I'm going to go for another 1500 words before bed.

Hello from my writing confinement. Our cabin, at Deep Creek Lake this year, is very cute, the fall colors are spectacular, and the hot tub is perfect and steamy. I don't feel as confident about pounding out the words as I have in previous years, but then again, I don't have a 50K goal to make so maybe I'm floundering a bit. What I'd like to accomplish this weekend is either 10K words or the end of my story, whichever comes first. I've written about 6000 words and I've been here 24 hours already, so that's not bad at all, but it just doesn't feel like I've written enough to keep this going. Then again, I've written too much to drop it very easily.

Nano began yesterday and I couldn't help but write something. It just didn't feel right to let November 1 go by unheralded. So I wrote... exactly two paragraphs, chose my protagonist's name in the space of 10 minutes, and summarized the plot without even thinking how I was actually going to write the story. On Friday I pick up Tracie from the airport and we head off for the third annual Writing Weekend, where I will either be rejuvenated with inspiration or just spend a lot of time in the hot tub and call Nano 05 a wash.
